So, recently I've had a writer's block and like I often do during these desperate times, I quickly put my faith in Google and researched "Things to Write About." Thankfully, this Q&A idea popped up. Below are 21 questions and answers that you may or may not already know about me. It was a lot of fun to think about and answer these questions so I encourage you to try it for yourself and share if you are inspired by it! Enjoy!
1. What’s the first thing you notice about people?
The way they make me feel. Are they friendly? Do they seem genuine? Can they make me laugh?
2. What are your favorite smells?
Balsam fir. The air after a thunderstorm. Burning wood.
3. What is your favorite drink?
Coffee. I prefer a French Vanilla or Hazelnut brew and definitely no cream or sugar. Just good ol’ regular coffee.
4. What is your favorite animal?
A moose! Moose remind me of the Adirondacks... and anyone who truly knows me knows that I LOVE the Adirondacks. I’ve never seen a moose before, but you can bet that my sights are set on seeing one!
5. Favorite childhood memory?
Sleepovers at MamMam and PopPop’s - playing Pinochle, eating McDonald’s ice cream sundaes with fudge and creating a town on their living room floor with my matchbox cars and houses that I drew on computer paper. I swore I was going to become an architect...
6.How would you describe your fashion sense?
Haha what fashion sense? I am definitely not a fashionista or a trendsetter. I’m actually usually about 10 steps behind what is “in-style.” When it comes to fashion, I have one goal: always be comfortable. A simple dress, sweatshirt and sweatpants or a sweater and jeans just about always does the trick.
7. What type of jewelry do you prefer?
When it comes to jewelry, I am VERY stuck in my ways and only switch out my earrings. I am a rose gold (or gold) girl all the way. I have two meaningful rings that I wear - one on each hand. I have a meaningful watch that I wear on my left wrist. I have two stacked meaningful necklaces that I wear - one shorter and one slightly longer. The only things I ever change are my earrings based on what outfit I am wearing. So I guess I’m pretty simple when it comes to jewelry!
8. What are 3 things that make you happy?
Family/work family. Puppy. Adventures.
9. What are 3 things that upset you?
Violence. Conflict. When bathrooms only have hand-dryers and not paper towels (had to lighten things up a bit).
10. What is one item you can’t leave home without?
My Palmer's Cocoa Butter chapstick is a MUST. Whether I am going to work, out for a hike or going to bed... this chapstick is always with me.
11. What are 3 pieces of advice you would give your younger self?
- Be yourself. People will respect you more when you are confident in what you stand up for and believe in.
- Buy and wear that St. Christopher medal around your neck sooner. He likes to travel too.
- Be okay with doing your own thing. Learn that eating alone in a crowded place is actually refreshing to you. That quiet walks in nature is the peacefulness that you crave. That driving alone allows you to have revitalizing country concerts. You enjoy hanging out with people too... but you will find extreme value and balance in that time you spend doing your own thing.
12. What is the first app you check when you wake up in the morning?
Facebook. They say Facebook is going out of style, but I guess my social media preferences align with my sense of fashion - always 10 steps behind.
13. What is your favorite candle scent?
Mint Chocolate Chip. About 5 years ago, Bath and Body Works came out with a mint chocolate chip candle that completely stole my heart. They continuously change the name and packaging year after year, but I still scope out my beloved scent whenever and wherever I can.
14. What language, other than your native language, would you like to be fluent in?
French - c’est tres romantique! After all, it is one of the five most spoken Romance languages in the world today! I took French for five years in school and absolutely loved it. Pair a conversation in French over a meal of chocolate crepes (perhaps with the Eiffel Tower in sight) and I am good to go! Oui oui!
15. What were your parents going to name you if you were the opposite gender?
Michael. Which I would have been okay with if I ended up being a boy.
16. What movie could you watch over and over again and still love?
Safe Haven. I’m a sucker for romance movies - especially when they have comedy, drama, and suspense - and Safe Haven is the real deal. Amazing soundtrack too by the way. Especially if you like simple chill music.
17. Do you like your handwriting?
When I don’t take my time writing - No. It looks like a caveman is holding a pen for the first time.
When I take my time writing - Yes. It is a small/medium sized, narrow and italicized lettering. It includes sharp edges or rounded edges based on my mood at the time. My favorite is the long dramatic swoops on my g’s and j’s that obnoxiously go well into the line beneath it.
Fun fact: I actually changed my natural handwriting in 9th grade Earth Science class. We took so many handwritten notes that I challenged myself in the beginning of the year to change my normal handwriting into something that I liked better. It definitely took a lot of practice, attention and repetition, but I successfully switched from medium bubble lettering to a small/medium edgy script.
18. Do you have any superstitions?
Yes. Every day, I have to put my left sock on first, then my right. And my left shoe on first, then my right. I always have to take care of my left foot first for some reason.
I truly don’t know why... but if I put my right sock or shoe on first, it just doesn’t seem right (really, no pun intended there).
I believe this started because of all of my soccer and lacrosse days. I got into the routine of doing everything “left” first. Socks, shoes and shin guard tape.
19. What are your favorite sports to watch?
Lacrosse. Football (mainly for the commercials during the Super Bowl). And Curling. Yes, curling. I am that ONE person in the world that will set my DVR the night before to tape the Olympic curling competitions for 3am in the morning.
20. Aside from necessities, what is one thing you can’t go a day without doing?
Recently, I have discovered the idea of using coconut oil in my hair and on my face. And it is seriously something I look forward to every night. Ah - the simple things.
21. Do you sleep with your sheets tucked in or out?
Definitely in. There is nothing more that I hate at night when my sheets come untucked and get unevenly proportioned on my bed. I sleep with a heated blanket, a sheet, a comforter and 2 fleece blankets (even during the summer)... so I get freaked out when a part of me is not under the covers. They are almost like security blankets - again, no pun intended :)
