The Other Road Not Taken

Perhaps it is not two roads diverging in the woods,

instead, just a singular path.

You can travel the route you've always understood,

or proceed into new territory and never look back.

Over the threshold, the smoothly paved road turns into a winding dirt path.

One you walk with ease; the other you have to bushwhack.

One is lined with street lamps to safely guide you home,

The other you follow the compass of your heart as to which direction you should roam.

Your heart is racing like a stallion when it runs,

Your face is warm like a sunflower that is turned towards the sun.

Your ready to fly like an eagle spreading its mighty wings,

But there is simply no way of knowing what the new path will bring.

So what do you do?

Take the leap of faith,

or stay with what is known?

You know you will soon need to choose,

which direction you want to go.

On one shoulder a voice says to turn around and the other, to wander.

One is happy with complacency, the other dreams about what is up yonder.

Torn and uncertain you sit there and contemplate,

listening to the two angels on your shoulders engage in a debate.

"Just take the road you traveled to bring yourself here,

going back the same way will eliminate your fear."

"Oh, but what if your soul completely awakens?

By proceeding down that other road not taken."
